QUEST 4 World War 2
On May 8th 2010 it was the 65th anniversary of VE Day, which stands for Victory in Europe Day. VE day marks the end of the Second World War on 8th May 1945.
Our timeline has two images to help us remember the Second World War:
A spitfire wing (a Spitfire was a fighter plane) Gas mask TO WIN TEAM POINTS AND BE ENTERED INTO THE DRAW TO WIN A GIFT VOUCHER:
1. Write your name, class and “Quest 4 World War 2” on a piece of paper.
2. Find 1945 on the timeline and CAREFULLY copy the Spitfire wing and gas mask. Use the same colours as on the timeline. BEWARE! Do NOT copy the first aeroplane which was invented by the Wright Brothers and flown in 1903!
3. Place the work in your class Time Line folder.
4. Tick off your name for Quest 4 on your class list. This must be done by Friday 28th May because I will gather the sheets on this day.
5. Ask your teacher if you may have a team point. You may still put your sheet in the folder after Friday 28th May but will not be given a team point or entered into the draw to win a raffle ticket.

The mural time line in the junior yard was painted by the children of Mundella in the summer of 2008 under the careful guidance of the talented artist Andy Heath. Andy used images initially generated by the children as a starting point to design the 40m timeline stretching from 2000BC to 2008AD.
The time line is to scale with 1cm representing each year, 10cm a decade, and 1m a century and so on… There is a variety of images including lots of patterns but everything is relevant in some way to the eras that the children study in school. Dates are “fairly” exact, but there are no cut off points! History “flows” into the next bit.
Andy worked in school for two weeks with a constant stream of eager and talented helpers from the junior classes and then took the giant boards back to his studio for the finishing touches including weather proofing! The results are stunning and the children should feel really proud of their combined efforts!
Hopefully you will enjoy the following pictures of the timeline. However this is not a substitute for the real thing! Children, parents, grandparents and other friends of Mundella are all welcome to “Walk the walls” in the yard (not literally of course!)
WATCH OUT FOR THE MONTHLY TIMELINE “QUESTS”! THESE WILL OFTEN FOCUS ON DIFFERENT SECTIONS AND GET YOU SEARCHING!
EACH TIME YOU JOIN IN WITH A QUEST YOU WILL WIN A TEAM POINT AND BE ENTERED INTO A RAFFLE TO WIN GIFT VOUCHERS!
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

QUEST 1 – GAME TIME!
Gather a group of friends together and play a game using our yard time line!
Here are a few suggestions:
TO WIN TEAM POINTS AND BE ENTERED INTO THE DRAW TO WIN A GIFT VOUCHER:
1 Write your name, class and “Quest 1 - Game Time!” on a piece of paper.
2 Write down what game you played. If it is a game you made up, you might wish to write instructions, so that others will know how to play it.
3 Place the work in your class Time Line Folder.
4 Tick off your name for Quest 1 on your class list. This must be done by Thursday 11th February because I will gather the sheets on this day.
5 Ask your teacher if you may have a house point. You may still put your sheet in the folder after 11th February but will not be given a house point nor entered into the draw to win a gift voucher.
HAVE FUN AND GET PLAYING! QUEST 2 – CIRCULAR PATTERNS
Have you noticed that there are lots of different circular (round) patterns along the whole length of the time line? This common theme helps to “link” the various part of the timeline together so that the art work “flows”. These patterns change to represent the different eras.
Can you find these circular patterns?
Nile flowers – Ancient Egypt Roman coins Anglo Saxon shields Tudor Roses Victorian industrial wheels Any other circular patterns (What are they?)
TO WIN TEAM POINTS AND BE ENTERED INTO THE DRAW TO WIN A GIFT VOUCHER:
QUEST 3 – Tutankhamen Find and carefully draw and colour the reference to Tutankhamen.
DON’T BE TRICKED!
Most people, (teachers included) thought Andy had forgotten to paint Tutankhamen! The largest image on the timeline is NOT Tutankhamen but is a sphinx. Look carefully and you will see the lion’s feet!
TO WIN TEAM POINTS AND BE ENTERED INTO THE DRAW TO WIN A GIFT VOUCHER:
1 Write your name, class and “Quest 3 - Tutankhamen” on a piece of paper.
2 Carefully copy and draw ONLY the bit from the timeline which represents Tutankhamen. Do NOT draw the whole of him!
3 Place the work in you class Time Line Folder.
4 Tick off your name for Quest 3 on your class list. This must be done by Wednesday 5th May because I will gather the sheets on this day.
5 Ask your teacher if you may have a team point. You may still put your sheet in the folder after 5th May but will not be given a team point or entered into the draw to win a gift voucher.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO NEATLY RETURN CLIP BOARDS, PAPER AND PENCILS IF YOU DO THIS IN THE YARD AT PLAYTIME.
TO WIN AN EXTRA RAFFLE TICKET: RESEARCH SPHINXS OR TUTANKHAMEN. WRITE ABOUT THEM AND SHOW ME BY FRIDAY 14TH MAY. Mrs Phelps
PLEASE REMEMBER TO NEATLY RETURN CLIP BOARDS, PAPER AND PENCILS IF YOU DO THIS IN THE YARD AT PLAYTIME.
HAVE FUN AND GET DRAWING! BACK TO THE FUTURE!
