Mundella Primary School

History Timeline Quest

Who would like their own picture at the top of one of our web pages?

If you use the links on the left you will see that there are some pages with a boring heading instead of a chirpy heading.

All you have to do is create a picture including the School Welcome statement and give it to Mr B to photograph, or send it in on studywiz to your teacher. Mr B will only accept pictures on SWIZ or in School- not on email.

QUEST 2 – CIRCULAR PATTERNS

Have you noticed that there are lots of different circular (round) patterns along the whole length of the time line? This common theme helps to “link” the various part of the timeline together so that the art work “flows”. These patterns change to represent the different eras.

Can you find these circular patterns?

Nile flowers – Ancient Egypt

Roman coins

Anglo Saxon shields

Tudor Roses

Victorian industrial wheels

Any other circular patterns (What are they?)

BACK TO THE FUTURE!

The mural time line in the junior yard was painted by the children of Mundella in the summer of 2008 under the careful guidance of the talented artist Andy Heath. Andy used images initially generated by the children as a starting point to design the 40m timeline stretching from 2000BC to 2008AD.

The time line is to scale with 1cm representing each year, 10cm a decade, and 1m a century and so on… There is a variety of images including lots of patterns but everything is relevant in some way to the eras that the children study in school.  Dates are “fairly” exact, but there are no cut off points! History “flows” into the next bit.

Andy worked in school for two weeks with a constant stream of eager and talented helpers from the junior classes and then took the giant boards back to his studio for the finishing touches including weather proofing! The results are stunning and the children should feel really proud of their combined efforts!

Hopefully you will enjoy the following pictures of the timeline. However this is not a substitute for the real thing! Children, parents, grandparents and other friends of Mundella are all welcome to “Walk the walls” in the yard (not literally of course!)

WATCH OUT FOR THE MONTHLY TIMELINE “QUESTS”! THESE WILL OFTEN FOCUS ON DIFFERENT SECTIONS AND GET YOU SEARCHING!

EACH TIME YOU JOIN IN WITH A QUEST YOU WILL WIN A TEAM POINT AND BE ENTERED INTO A RAFFLE TO WIN GIFT VOUCHERS!

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

QUEST 1 – GAME TIME!

Gather a group of friends together and play a game using our yard time line!

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Timeline Race – someone is “on” and calls out where you are to run to e.g. The Tudors, a Viking boat etc. The first to reach that place wins a point.

  • Tardis Game – this is a time travel game where you travel to different points in history in your Tardis. What is life like at this point in History? Who is there? What events are taking place? You might, for example, travel to 1969 and land a space ship on the moon! The choice is yours!

  • Make up other games using the time line.

TO WIN TEAM POINTS AND BE ENTERED INTO THE DRAW TO WIN A GIFT VOUCHER:

1 Write your name, class and “Quest 1 - Game Time!” on a piece of paper.

2 Write down what game you played. If it is a game you made up, you might wish to write instructions, so that others will know how to play it.

3 Place the work in your class Time Line Folder.

4 Tick off your name for Quest 1 on your class list. This must be done by Thursday 11th February because I will gather the sheets on this day.

5 Ask your teacher if you may have a house point. You may still put your sheet in the folder after 11th February but will not be given a house point nor entered into the draw to win a gift voucher.

HAVE FUN AND GET PLAYING!
