Our vision:

MUNDELLA:

A school which promotes respect and healthy living, and where everyone feels valued and able to reach their full potential.

Who would like their own picture at the top of one of our web pages?

If you use the links on the left you will see that there are some pages with a boring heading instead of a chirpy heading (like this one).

All you have to do is create a picture including the School Welcome statement and give it to Mr B to photograph, or send it in on studywiz to your teacher. Mr B will only accept pictures on SWIZ or in School- not on email.

November 2009

Dear Parents.

I’m sure you have all enjoyed the delightful Autumn we have had.  I hope this lovely weather continues.

I enclose some information to keep you up to date with events in school.

Staffing issues:

I am very sorry to announce that Mr Fernandes is leaving us.  He has been appointed as the Deputy Head at St Marie’s School, starting in January.  We are very pleased for Mr Fernandes as we know he will do a brilliant job and he deserves this success; however, he has had such a fantastic impact on our school and we shall be extremely sorry to see him go. Miss Teeling will be taking over his 3 days teaching in Y5 and Mrs Stringer will become temporary Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo.)  Between us, we shall endeavour to ,maintain the high level of quality PE provided in school.  I’m sure you will join with me in wishing him all the very best.

Cleaner wanted:

We have a vacancy for a cleaner.  Please contact The School if you think you might be interested in joining our team.

Bag2school:

Thank you to everyone who supported our last Bag2school initiative.  The next collection is due on March 9th.  Thank you

Walk to School :

Thank you to everyone who has participated in this – we have been encouraging children to be active all week and some of the staff have also participated; walking some or all of the way to school.  We hope these good practices will continue.

Developing Independence:

Part of growing up is children growing up to become more independent and responsible.  In light of this, we hope you will work with us and expect your children to take responsibility for such things as:

taking care of their property;  completing and delivering their homework and delivering letters and messages.   We also expect Infants to come into the main building on their own – the corridors are too narrow and restricted to allow parents access in the mornings – please allow your children to line up with their class and to come into school with their teacher.  Thank you.

Visits money/ Dinner money/orders etc:

Please could all lunch money be paid on a Monday morning, a great deal of admin time has been wasted recently dealing with lunch money on other days.  If there is a special lunch available please could you also make sure that you have ordered this and paid by the dates on the letter. Please could you ensure that your child hands their own lunch money into their class cash box.  This also applies to all money for photographs, visits and after school activities.  Again this is part of the children gaining independence and taking responsibility.  We are having a large number of parents waiting at the office each morning to hand in money.

Parent Governor:

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mrs Oldham- Hepper who was voted in as our new Parent Governor.  If there are issues you would like to raise with her, please contact school.

Shoebox Appeal:

Every year we participate in this appeal whereby we ask you to fill a shoe box with small gifts for children living in war-torn areas of the world. Items such as toys (but not war related items); educational items; hygiene items; sweets; hats and gloves are appropriate to include in your shoe box.    Notices should have gone out about this before half term (and thank you to the parent who has already sent in a shoe box!) but please ask at the office if you did not receive the leaflet. Please deliver your shoeboxes to the Office by Friday, 13th November. We send our boxes to St Paul’s Church and share their Dedication of the Shoeboxes Service which will take place on November 15th.

The gymnasts have been asked to perform at this event so I hope we might see some of you there.

Refurbishments:

We have had more work done over the holiday.  The windows have been replaced in the kitchen and Mr May has begun repairing the lintels and cills  outside the Y5 and Y6 classrooms.

Harvest Festival:

Thank you to everyone who so generously supported this appeal.  The Church accepted our donation of tinned goods and added them to their collection.  These were then taken to the Roundabout charity where I know they were much appreciated.

We also collected £130.10 which will be sent to Vision Africa to help the children in Kibera.  We are hoping to set up links with one school out there so that we can support more in the future if we can.

Parents’ Classes:

We have arranged  for “C’mon Everybody” to deliver some Parenting courses starting on March 2nd from 9.15 -11.15  More details are available form School.

Anti-bullying week:

This event will take place week beginning 16th November.  The focus this year is “Cyber bullying”.  We shall be organizing a range of activities to raise the awareness of the unacceptability of any form of bullying – including cyber bullying.  The Friday of this week is 20th November which is also “Children in Need” day so we shall hold a “Wear Blue” non-uniform day (blue being the “anti-bullying” colour); and ask children to bring their Teddy to school (to support “Children in Need”) and also to bring a £1 – also to support Children in Need!  Thank you.

Volunteer wanted:

Are you able to help us 1 or 2 mornings a week?  We need someone to help us with mounting work for display.  You need to be a bit of a perfectionist for this!  If you think you would like to help in this area, please let the office know.  Thank you.

Puffin Books:

Many thanks to all who order Puffin Books, this does enable us to order a lot of free books for school.  If you would like to order from the most recent catalogue please could you send in your order by Monday 9th November.
