School Dinners and Milk

At Mundella, we are proud to work in partnership with Taylor Shaw, who provide freshly prepared school meals for our pupils on site and support our commitment to the Food for Life Bronze Award. Our meals are prepared daily in our school kitchen by Taylor Shaw’s catering team, following a bespoke menu approved by our Headteacher. All menus meet the Government’s School Food Standards as well as the Food for Life Bronze Award criteria, ensuring pupils enjoy nutritious, balanced, and high-quality meals each day.

Taylor Shaw's dieticians and cooks ensure our meals are nutritionally balanced, creative and appealing to children, to meet all the requirements of the Department of Education School Food Standards.

Taylor Shaw promises to work in close conjunction with parents and carers of pupils with medical dietary requirements to ensure that their individual needs are met. With the help of parents and carers providing detailed information regarding the dietary needs of their child, Taylor Shaw can create a specific menu, catering to their additional needs.

If your child is interested in having school meals in school and have additional dietary requirements, it is the parent/carers responsibility to contact Taylor Shaw, who will begin the easy process of creating a specific menu.

School Dinners

Healthy school dinners are cooked on the premises.  If you would like your child to have a school dinner, the following is for your information:

All infant children (FS, Y1 and Y2) are offered a free school meal each day (universal infant free school meals).  Your child just needs to tell their teacher at registration if they are staying for a school meal.  They will also be asked for their menu choice.

The cost of dinners for junior children (Y3–6) is:

Per day:  £3.00

Full week:  £15.00

School lunches should be paid using an online system called ParentPay. You can access Parent Pay via this web link: https://www.parentpay.com/.  Please ask at the office if you do not have your login details for this.

Please see the attachment for the current menu.

If your child prefers to bring their own lunch, please see the following link for our Packed Lunch Policy.

Changes to Free School Meals from September 2026

We want to make families aware of some upcoming changes to Free School Meals (FSM), which may affect pupils from 1 September 2026.

What is changing?

On 8 May 2026, the Department for Education announced changes to how Free School Meals eligibility will work in future, linked to Universal Credit.

These changes will affect:

  • Families who currently receive FSM.
  • Families who may be eligible but are not currently claiming FSM.

Important change to current protection

Since April 2018, once a child becomes eligible for FSM, they continue to receive them even if their family’s circumstances have changed.

This protection will end at the end of the 2025–26 school year on 31 August 2026.

Checking eligibility (summer to autumn term)

Sheffield City Council will be checking free school meal eligibility for all pupils between the summer and autumn term 2026 (and regularly going forwards). This applies to:

  • Pupils who currently receive FSM.
  • Families who wish to apply for FSM for the first time.

Who may be eligible?

Targeted Free School Meals (with additional funding for schools)

Families may be eligible if they receive:

  • Universal Credit with a household income of £7,400 a year or less.
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit.
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
  • Support as a family with no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

Expanded Free School Meals (meals only)

Families may also be eligible if they receive Universal Credit with a household income above £7,400.

How to apply

Families who are not currently receiving free school meals but think they may be eligible should apply online:

You can also:

  • ask your child’s school to apply on your behalf, or
  • contact Sheffield City Council, Customer Services Team at 0114 2734567 (option 4, option 3).

Please note that you do not need to apply if you are already receiving income-based free school meals in a Sheffield school – we will be in touch if anything has changed.

School Milk

All primary school children in Sheffield aged between 5–11 years are entitled to subsidised school milk at a cost of 23p (as at September Term 1 2025) for a 1/3 pint (189 ml) carton of semi-skimmed.

Primary School pupils over the age of 5 who are eligible for Income-Based Free School Meals are also eligible for free milk. All children under the age of 5 are eligible for free milk (under 5s are automatically offered this).

A letter goes home before the end of term to inform you of the cost of milk for the following term. If your child is over 5 years old, and you want your child to have school milk during the following term, you will need to pay for the next term's milk via Parent Pay by the deadline in the letter.  The online ParentPay system can be accessed via  https://www.parentpay.com/.

School Fruit

All Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children are offered a free piece of fruit each day.  Please see the document below for details of this
